7 July 2010

It was a little cooler (well, around 27C) and cloudy skies turned to rain mid-afternoon, though we managed to have a picnic lunch near the office with Nick first.

We called in on Julia on the way back and ended up popping out for a while so that Julia could spend an hour with Charlize while Serafina slept. Unfortunately it began raining as we left so we diverted to Appi Azabu. There were many strollers there and we soon found out that they were holding a Tanabata event, this being the annual Star Festival. Emily was not interested in the songs and story the staff put on at all so we played quietly at the side. A male member of staff came out dressed in a brown monkey outfit, which briefly got Emily's attention. However Julia and I soon noticed that his outfit sported a set of flesh-coloured felt genitalia! They had pinned on a couple of paper stars to hide the offending attachment but I was amazed and somewhat ill at ease. Luckily Emily had lost interest again quickly. Wish I had taken the camera! Definitely falls into the 'only in Japan' category.
