8 July 2010

For our final playdate with Tim and Isy before we fly, we had a trip over to Odaiba. Bettina was accompanied by her in-laws who were on their last day of a fortnight's visit. It was really hot but we managed to stay cool by putting our feet in the water while the children had a great time in the fountain pool.

The lower part of the water feature was monopolised by a group of about 50 school children, but once they had left we moved on down there to play some more, and were glad to find a strong breeze there near the edge of the bay.

After more than an hour of play we stopped for a picnic under a shady tree, where the wind was even cooler and made for a thoroughly pleasant spot to eat even on a day hitting the 30C mark. There was plenty to see, as always: boats of every size and type, cranes at the container port opposite, and a plane overhead every minute.

We walked round to Aquacity and spent quite a while hanging out there in the cool. First stop was a huge pet shop where Emily cooed over a cute puppy, then we had a look around the aquarium tanks. Emily was pleased to see several 'Nemo fish', and though we loved the baby turtles I felt very sorry for them. I couldn't resist snapping a display of dog clothes - yes, this is not human apparel!

I think there must be almost as many pet accessory shops as clothes shops for people in that mall. We rode the Urban Launch back across to Shibaura then went our separate ways.
