1 December 2010

Emily and I put up our rather meagre selection of Christmas decorations and broke open the two advent calendars. It felt all wrong as it was 18C out and a typical dry bright early winter day.

We had lunch with Nick then walked over to the ward office in Daimon, where I took Nick's alien registration card in to update with his newly-extended visa (can it really be almost three years since he left me holding the baby back at Mum's?). After that was completed we went to Onarimon park where the superb ginkgos were resplendent but the stinky ginnan nuts with their vomit-like stench nearly drove us away. You get accustomed to it after a few minutes but it is truly awful at first sniff. It was so warm that I found I was being bitten by mozzies under the trees so we moved on down the road to Shiba Koen. Emily befriended a little girl who was half her age but they played quite sweetly for a while. As the sun began to set we wended our way home, and I regretted leaving the camera behind as there was a beautiful blossom tree flanked by a golden ginkgo and a red maple.
