We headed over to Meguro to meet Jo and Bettina and kids, and ended up hanging around at Starbucks there for an hour. It was busy inside so we sat outside but the children were getting in the way of people going in and out of the mall and they were crazy together so it was hardly a relaxing coffee break for us mums. Once Bettina arrived we soon went to the park. I can't believe she is already out and about for the day, with Sam less than two weeks old.
The Nature Studies park was looking pretty.
The kids spent ages just inside the entrance collecting stones and leaves before we persuaded them to move on down to the little wooden 'house' by the pond.
At the end of the path was a long set of steps so I told Jo and Bettina to go back with the strollers and said that I would escort the three toddlers up the steps and to the exit. I wish I hadn't. Isy told Emily that a dragon was chasing them and was going to eat them and Emily immediately began to cry. I found it hard to deal with her tears while stopping Tim from running off, which he is often apt to do.
Once back with the others we sat by the exit and Emily calmed down. I was surprised that she told me a lie. I asked her if she had picked the green leaves she was holding and she said 'no' but after I asked a couple more times she said she had (as I had suspected). To the best of my knowledge that was the first time she had been untruthful.
I have been putting a lot of time into organising the Taiwan holiday. It is very unlike me to get so close to a trip without everything planned down to the 'nth degree. Now I have discovered that we can't hire a car as we need international licences. But I have found a very pleasant hotel by the sea in Hualien with extremely helpful staff who can organise a private car and driver so we may go that route instead. It is Christmas after all! And the whole holiday will work out about the same price as a long weekend in Japan.
