I spent the whole day cleaning, shopping, packing and cooking. My first attempt at a cake ended in disappointment, as when I turned it out I found it had a soggy bottom! Second time around I tried the old faithful madeira recipe and it worked a treat, though it didn't rise very much. It took me several hours to shape and decorate it, but I was pleased with the result.
